Audio Resoures

The site was easy to search and user friendly. It is both and audio and video site. I-tunes is a very reputible name and it's online resources suppor the I-tunes name. There was a host of apps in all of the subject areas that could be downloaded to supplement curriculum. In addition, there was also assessment apps available. The site also provided support for the educator. It linked ideas about how to teach with the Ipad, how to apply apps in the classroom, books in the classroom, and tutorials for support.

Again, I found this site to be easy to search.I feel like I-tunes does a nice job offering explanation and variety to its user. I have the podcast app already downloaded on my phone and it's an amazing way to discover, subscribe to, and play favorite podcasts. I can search the topic I am looking for and find several podcasts relating to the topic. This is a great way to get students to tune in. For example I can type in Nutrition and find several podcasts relating to nutrition facts and videos to supplement the curriculum. And the app is free. I can also add my favorite podcasts to personal stations that stay up to date when new episodes become available so I'm not contiually seraching.
Video Resources

I frequently use YouTube Education in my classroom. It is also a user friendly site. It is free and offers instructional videos and content for teachers and students. I have used it to supplment my lesson or to offer that visual instruction piece to my lecture. The students enjoy it and gain additional knowledge from the videos. Depending on the topic I am teaching YouTube Education can also be a very powerful addition to the lesson.

Pbs is a new educational site for me. I found it to be the best as far as user friendly. It was laid out in a manner that allowed me to locate what I was looking for very quickly. The seach bar was located right at eye sight of the page and there was a section that allowed me to pull up the grade level and content I was looking for. The site then directed me to a plethora of videos that related to the topic. I was then able to refine my search to pin point the exact videos I could use. I thought some of the documents and videos that appeared were a bit advanced for my 8th grade audience but I found some great videos through this site. I will definitely use it in the future as an additional video resource.
The one site that I would recommend to a colleague would be YouTube Education. She is a Digital Media specialist and I think that site would be a great visual tool to enhance the students knowledge of Digital Media. She could use tutorials to supplement her instruction on how to use the web and create videos.
Sharing a Podcast

I shared my podcast with a few colleagues. Their reaction to the podcast that I chose, "Do Calories Really Matter" in iTunes was similiar to my initial thoughts of the podcast.
1. "The first minute of the podcast was devoted to advertising and promoting "audibles." You may want to instruct the students to fast-forward to the actual audio of the material."
2. "The information was relevant to a Health classroom and certainly a new avenue for the students to explore (podcasts) but the podcast was a little dry."
The podcast augments learning in the form of redefinition. Computer technology allows for new tasks that were once inconceivable. The resource supports students' learning and the concepts of the material covered.
M.O.R.E and TWICE

This activity supplements MME Health. The lesson provides facts about cigarettes, the causes and effects of cigarette smoking, and the creation of anti-smoking campaingns geared towards other students.
Throughout the lesson there are numerous links to sites that act as extension activities where the students can explore and use a "question and answer" sheet to gain additional information regarding state by state coverage of tobacco litigation, the American Lung Association, and the Surgeon General’s Report for Kids, SGR 4 Kids with facts about kids and smoking, the effects of tobacco, and what you can do to help make the world smoke-free. After a deeper understanding of tobacco and its effects students can create their anti smoking campaigns.

This site offered greate extension activities to help modify my lessons on nutrition, body image, and physical activity. I am definitely going to use the journaling activity with the list of questions to gain a deeper understanding of the students insight into what is considered healthy and unhealthy. This is a great discussion piece and even debate topic for Health class. After I would love students to compare and contrast G.I. Joe and Barbie versus the average man and woman. This is a great modification to the lesson to explore how the media/advertisements influence people.
